Día de los Muertos
Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead in English, is a predominantly Mexican holiday for remembrance of deceased family and friends, as well as a celebration of life for the living. It is a tradition with roots that reach back up to 3,000 years to Pre-Columbian times. Forged through the fusion of indigenous practices with Spanish culture at contact in 1519, it has evolved in the over 500 years since into the Día de los Muertos that we know today.
This vibrant tradition was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2008.
As a language immersion school, we firmly believe that language is acquired best in its cultural context.
